LIST: 2006 in Review

Out of the hundreds of films released this year, I had the pleasure (and sometimes displeasure) of viewing around 50-60 of them. The following is my take on the good, the bad, and the ugly of the films I did happen to see in 2006. Keep in mind that as of this writing, I have not yet viewed many of the summer blockbusters, as well as the majority of the Oscar hopefuls and films that only received a limited release.

BEST ACTION FILM: Mission Impossible III

BEST COMEDY: Borat

BEST DOCUMENTARY: A Lion in the House

BEST FEEL-GOOD MOVIE: Little Miss Sunshine

BEST VISUAL EFFECTS: Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest

BEST VILLAIN: Owen Davian (Mission Impossible III)
Runner-Up: The MPAA (This Film Is Not Yet Rated), Global Warming (An Inconvenient Truth)

BEST HERO: Jaguar Paw (Apocalypto)
Runner-Up: Nick Naylor (Thank You For Smoking)

MOST ORIGINAL FILM: Brick

MOST DISTURBING SCENE: Castration (Hard Candy)
Runner-Up: Wrestling (Borat), Escape By Erection (Tenacious D)

BIGGEST SURPRISE (good): Running Scared
Runner-Up: Lucky Number Slevin

BIGGEST SURPRISE (bad): United 93
Runner-Up: Talladega Nights

BEST SURPRISE PERFORMANCE: Mark Wahlberg (The Departed)

BEST DIRECTOR: Darren Aronofsky (The Fountain)

BEST ORIGINAL SCORE: Clint Mansell (The Fountain)

MOST OVERRATED FILM: United 93
Runner-Up: V For Vendetta
